Moving the mic towards the centre of the speaker will brighten the recording up a touch...
Yeah I did try that and it sounded too harsh/fizzy so I settled for a slightly more dull tone.. anyway hopefully it'll all sound good when the GnR clip is done, its getting bass and vocals added then being mixed/mastered by someone on harmony central for the guitar jam coverfest at the start of July :)
