Anybody out there using the Warpig an MQ set up in bridge/neck respectively.

Currently toying with that idea.... :?

I have them in an Explorer and they work together really well.  I have series/parallel wiring for the Warpig too, which gives an extra set of cleaner sounds.

At the risk of going off topic, Phil the guitar to the left in your picture looks beautiful. I'm guessing it's a PRS (not usually my thing which is why I'm guessing a little). What body wood is it? The wood grain and aged pickup covers look really sweet to these eyes :)

Actually it is an all walnut guitar, with a one piece body and flamed walnut nect, with ebony fingerboard.  It was made by a friend back in the late 80's and has an incredibly versatile set of switches on it which give all the combinations of pickups available.  There are 2 3 way blade swiches and 2 dpdt (one is a push pull).  One switch is the MQ and Slowhand (both in the middlw setting) and the other switch gives the Mini-Mule and the first switch (first switch settings/first + mini-Mule/Mini-Mule alone).  The dpdt switch does coil tap on the MQ, and the push pull is series/parallel for the mini-Mule.

I think this is the original BK MQ (it is the first one in the gallery anyway!), and was wound with a black dog wind, with a tap which cuts 1,000 or so turns.  The tap thins up the sound without losing much volume which is perfect for what I wanted.  The other guitar is a DC LP junior with the first Pig-90 - original Sabbath is required when playing it!

To come back to Ted's topic, I myself was thinking of this kind combination for my Gibson, which I want more aggressive than my vintage sounding Epi LP.

I noticed though that humbucker neck pups tend to have too much low end to my taste. That's why a bucker sized P90 seems more and more to be something I might enjoy. Don't know if I would go for a warpig in bridge though. That is quite a high output pup if I am not mistaking.

So basically, I would be interested to hear about these kind of combo user as well!  :D

Thats a versatile axe then Phil. How does it sound with the walnut body - walnut isn't a body wood I'm fmailiar with so I'd be interested hear what kind of tone it has.

Hi, Walnut is a little more mellow than maple but not as mellow as mahogany, so it is quite a bright guitar.  The Wilkinson trem keeps it a bit more mellow than if is was a hardtail.  With the MQ it really can take your head off, but it still has a lot of fatness in it and I really like the tone.  The Slowhand is the perfect single coil for this guitar and adds some nice mids.  The Mini-Mule is a little overwhelmed by the MQ though by itself it sounds great.  I'm hoping that Tim has my rewound/reworked Firebird pickup at LGS.  This will have A5 magnets and a hotter wind and will replace the Mini-Mule.  The Mini-Mule will then go in the neck of a Tele.

I second the MQ/WP combo.  Got them in my SG.  They balance each other out nicely.  They have a great sound when both activated.  The neck MQ has lots of raw energy and low end that just seems to work with the massive force called the Warpig.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy them at the NY Chapter meet.  Ben (TwilightOdyssey) was wailing away... :twisted:

Yes!! Thats exactly what I wanted to hear.

I've settled on MM's for my V though, so maybe this combo will have to go into another guitar!!!  :?

Ok so I've settled on Warpig & MQ, but wondering if when getting the MQ in the neck it needs to be wound a bit hotter than 7k ? The alnico warpig is 24k!!!!

Any thoughts?

PS I'm after the Down / Crowbar sound.

P90s have 2 strong magnets - they are more powerful than the impedance rating might sound.

as shag101 and philking already said - MQ + WarPig does balance totally fine volume wise.
