Eddie Hazel/Funkadelic Tone?
« on: July 17, 2007, 01:37:18 AM »
I've been playing around a lot today, and listening to maggot brain, and i've been trying to get something similar...

I've turned the distortion to nearly 0 on my guyatone mm-1 metal monster and suprisingly it sounds quite similar but cuts out occasionally on the high strings.

Everyone who i've jammed with this set-up though, has said my playing has been far better than usual, because i've slowed down.

I've been thinking why, normal smooth/high gain distortion gets boring to my ears, and i want to hear the next note, get away from the boring sound and make it more interesting, by playing faster. This 'type' of distortion, i want to hang around on that note for a while, hear the detail, then move on when the times right.

And to be honest, the eddie hazel tone in maggot brain sounds like it's what i'm after, a shame the guyatone cuts out 'cause the gain is so low! i'll tinker some more tomorow, could be the pup's im using/wiring.

Wow, sorry for the big post, but any ideas?

Also i'm currently looking at this fuzz pedal, if anyone has any experience with it... http://www.killerpedals.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=23

Cheers guys :)
