I have a jackson with a liscenced floyd, and I've decided to replace it.

At the moment I'm looking at an OFR.

Is there anything out there thats hands-down better thatll drop in (I cant be arsed routing even for something amazing when I know an OFR will do the job well enough).

Cheers in advance.

nope. the OFR is a drop in replacement for the JT580
if you have the low thingy trem, then you take the floyd rose pro

but there is no aditional routing needed

The Gotoh FR trem is a superb bit of engineering, easily as good as the OFR at a more affordable price. I use them in preference to anything else and always have them in stock. They also fit the same routing as the OFR. You would just need to check that the centre to centre distance of the fulcrum pins (mounting studs) on your Jackson is 73mm.

The OFR is my trem of choice
the Gotoh is also superb as Bob says and the Ibanez Edge is also fabulous

Wht colour do you need?

Hey guys thanks for the help!

I need black, I'm afraid Feline, or you'd be my man (if you get any in drop me a note: I'm on here often enough, or markdvaz@yahoo.co.uk, thanks man, the worst that can happen is I'll already have got one and thank you for the heads-up anyway)

Now I'm in a slight quandry: moneys no object (well, £40 difference or whatever is no object), what, in you guys opinion is the flat-out best trem I could use (which as two of you are luthiers I'm not gonna fricken argue with! [on this at least ;) ] ) the gotoh or the OFR? Are there pros and cons to each?

I guess the Floyd Rose patent must have timed out 'cos you don't see "Licensed under Floyd Rose patents" on the latest Gotoh version. The original Gotoh FR trem was in my view the most faithful replica of the OFR. The engineering standards and crucially the hardness of the knife edges that it pivots on were at least as good as the OFR if not better in some respects. Since then the Gotoh trem has been continually developed and improved. I agree with the idea that the OFR still has that certain something, it is after all the real thing. But in my book the Gotoh has the edge 'cos it looks just as good, it's totally reliable, sounds great (big brass sustain block) and it's better value for money.
Jonathan (Feline Guitars) will now, no doubt, state the case for the OFR.  :D

Cheers Bob. I'll look into the Gotoh, see if it fits and what not.
