plugging a guitar into a PC
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:56:44 PM »
I installed amplitube 2 the other day and it says not to plug you guitar into the PC using line in because of the high impedance (whoops!!!! been doing that on guitar rig for years)

I don't have instrument in socket on my soundcard, so what do I need, would a DI box do it (I ain't got a clue what DI boxs are actually for) or would I need to buy some fancy expensive pro audio soundcard?

The guitar rig manual says that any buffered effects pedal will match the impedance ok. True bypass would be the same as plugging straight in. Thats what I do with guitar rig and it seems to work ok. Definitely sounds better than without. My friend bought a Saffire audio interface (cos he's fussier than me) and that sounds much better still, just more transparent and guitar-like for want of a better word. He uses amplitube also. Try sticking a pedal in between guitar and pc. Don't switch it on, but make sure there's a battery in it otherwise it don't work. You will hear a difference I'm sure, even if you can't put your finger on it. I just use an old preamp pedal that I no longer need since I got my  Warpig. Good luck
