BKP's for a custom rhodes
« on: September 07, 2007, 06:26:47 PM »
Hey everyone, over the past few weeks I've been researching and testing different humbuckers to put in my Jackson USA RR-1, and I've finally decided to go with Bare Knuckles. I know these types of questions are asked
fairly often, but any input would be much appreciated. I'm currently
using a Peavey 5150 II head with a matching 4x12 cab, mxr 10 band eq
and the jackson rr-1 which is currently fitted with a SD Sh2 Jazz in
the neck and TB4 in the bridge. The guitar is neck -thru, with an alder
body, maple neck, and ebony fretboard. My style of music is a mix
between thrash and progressive metal, with elements of bands like
death, nevermore, kreator, and iron maiden. After reading up on the
different pickups and listening to clips, i've narrowed my choices to
the nailbomb, warpig, and painkiller. I'm looking for a crunchy, crisp
and tight rhythm tone and i like to use my neck pickup for soloing. Any
tips or suggestions would be much appreciated, as im a typical poor
musician who cant afford to properly test out every pickup!

For the Iron Maiden, definitely the Painkiller.  It will work with everything else listed there too.

The shreddy neck tone is often a ceramic so there ya go!

This is a follow up to my last spam  8)

Plugged in my Jackson Death angel custom (almost a RR1) with the Miracle Man yesterday and it also sounds also good. Ask Tim if he think the MM can fit in the RR1! since it has the balls you are after thinking about that Death wibe you are after

+1

Of the pickups you mention, I'd say Painkillers.

But FWIW, I have a Holy Diver set in my Jackson RR-1T & absolutely love it.  I wouldn't recommend the HD neck for soloing, but I reckon a HD bridge/Cold Sweat neck combo would slay in an alder neck-thru Jackson (if I ever manage to get another RR1 or a KV2, that's what it will get...).  I only mention it because if you don't mind the TB4, but feel it lacks a certain "something", changing to the HD made a huge difference for me.  Here's a clip I did with it...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

I heard a Miracle Man in a Sl-1, which is quite comparable, just a slightly thicker neck and I thought it was too much highs for that guitar. I wouldn't take them for the Rhoads either. Probably because of the maple neck-through and the ebony fretboard ...

Anyways, maybe the painkiller sounds too british (sorry guys  :P ) for a Nevermore (Hi Noumenon   ) tone ...

I'm looking for a Nailbomb to put in my RR1 with the Nevermore 'politics of ecstacy'-sound in mind.

Don't get me wrong, I believe the Painkiller sounds absolutely great.
Maybe I should take a listen again

I happened to see one of these in Sound Control yesterday - I'm not normally drawn to angular designs, but have to say it was a handsome beast! :)
