i don't know how many of you guys have ever even heard of Welsh glam legends Tigertailz, but at 10:30 AM yesterday, Monday 18th September 2007, Pepsi Tate, thier bass player and songwriter, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

i'm just a fan, not friend or family, but i know i feel a great sadness.  i can only send my best wishes to them, and hope a few of you will raise a glass with me in his honour.

R.I.P Pepsi, thanks for the memories.

Oh no, I've been following his health problems for quite some time and hoped it wouldn't come to this.

I saw Tigertailz a few times in the early 90s and NEVER had a bad gig.

Sad day.

I met him once at a record signing and an old schoolchum of mine played in Tigertailz for a while. They never got the break they deserved. This is another sad loss.

Oh Gawd - so sad to hear
I used to be the biggest Tigertailz fan back in 1987 when Steevi Jaimz was the singer - who was like Dave Lee Roth on speed

Pepsi was really cool and with Jay and Ace made for a great band.
Pepsi was a god artist and designed all their album and t-shirt art as well as writing much of the material

Still liked them with Kim Hooker on vocals but haven't seen them for a few years.
Sad thing is they are touring (supporting Y&T) with the new album  - Thrill Pistol .

Here is their most recent single/video

However this was still their greatest moment for me : SHOOT TO KILL 12" single
Great slice of glam rock - being sold here on ebay
Buy it if you are curious about their early days - was later rerecorded for
the Young and Crazy album but wasn't anywhere near s good as the single version.

Great fretwork!

Sad news.  I wasn't the biggest fan, but since there weren't too many famous Welsh bands when I was a nipper I always felt a bit of loyalty to Tigertailz.  Only saw them once, with Gypsy Queen at the Astoria.

Pepsi's dad, Ray Smith, was a well known actor (at least, he was well known in our house - maybe my gran knew his mum or something) who also died quite young.

Weird to feel the way I'm feeling but I just had a real special place in my heart for that band and especially Pepsi.

Tied up inextricably with my youth.

God times do change don't they?... never take anything for granted.

Pretty much my feelings exactly Dave.  having been the "only glam in the village" Tigertailz have always had a place in my heart, and Pepsi being their mouthpiece, he was always the personality i thought of.

More sad news - I just read in this month's Guitar Player that former Girlschool guitarist Kelly Johnson has died after a 6-year battle with spinal cancer.

Girlschool were, I think, the third band I ever saw, supporting Uriah Heep at the Swansea Brangwyn Hall in 1980.  I can remember that gig better than most of the others I've been to since.
