ibanez in need of bkps!
« on: October 16, 2007, 10:27:07 AM »
ive been playing my ibanez rgt42 for about 3 years now and put it through all sorts of music from clapton to megadeth.
and i have never changed my pickups .  what a mistake!!!
my cousin had some live wires put in his jackson and it sounds about a million times better than mine and i need some secret weapons.

so my question is this.... what would you guys recommend for me?

as i said i play an ibanez rgt42 and play all styles though rock and metal are favorites espeically mega deth and ac/dc.... i just love playing guitar!

i think that the Nailbomb is the most versatile pickup to have in an ibanez - it can cover (and excels at) pretty much every 'heavy rock' base, which is what most ibanez players are looking for.
People have also had very good results with the Holydiver in an ibanez.
What kind of tones do you like, and what set-up are you playing through?

Well, from what I can glean, the RGT42 comes in mahogany or basswood. It might be made from another type of wood too, not sure.  Any idea what yours is made of?

I'm thinking that you'd like any of the pickups here, judging by what you wrote, but if you have a better idea of the sort of sound (super-tight, organic, middy, scooped, etc), that might help us narrow down what it is you're after.

Check out some of the clips, but I'd say try to find out what your particular guitar is made from, too. Basswood and Mahogany sound rather different!

my ibanez is made from mahogany not sure about the fret board but i think its rosewood.
i run it through marshall combo 50 w but should be getting a dsl head soon.
ive listened to the sound bites on the other forum and have to say i was impressed with all but the nailbomb ,warpig and miricle man sounded best to me!!
But you can never really tell till you let riff yourself!!

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think Nailbomb out of those three would be the most versatile.

My MM is a one trick pony really, but I love it and I haven't had my Warpig long enough to comment on versatillity.

I haven't tried nailbombs, but I wouldn't describe my miracle man as a one trick pony.  Sure, it's not *the* most versatile pickup out there, but certainly not a one-trick pony.

Of course, *I* am a one trick pony, therefore maybe I'm in the worst place to comment :D

If you want versatility, enough gain to stand next to your mates livewires and a FAR better tone, get a Warpig.

maybe the nailbomb clips didn't impress you so much due to the playing on it?
obiously not faulting Tim's playing  8)  but I think he apologises in that for using a lot of the bar, due to not using that gutiar too often  :?:

My wife has a Nailbomb in her Ibanez s2170 for the bridge and a Mississippi Queen P90 in the neck and that works very well. A Nailbomb set would also do the job.

If you play a lot of heavy dirty stuff then maybe a Warpig in the bridge, I don't know much about them but what I hear is good.
