time to replace PUs on 1991 RG550 =} please help
« on: October 17, 2007, 06:25:50 PM »
alright so lets get some things straight

body: sanded down & stained Basswood

style i play mostly: rock, metal, hardcore, post metal/hardcore, lots of leads, tapping. and i was wondering if i could coiltap these PUs, I'll need that for blues.

what i look for in a neck pickup: articulate well rounded notes when sweeping, smooth sustain, and it must respond well to tapping.

what i look for in a bridge pickup: contemporary bRutal yet distinct crunch, must respond well to pinch harmonics, im looking for nice low end, smooth mids (i scoop them out anyways for metal), and again smooth articulate highs.

what i look for in a middle single coil pu: TONE, thats pretty much it. i rarely use the middle PU, but the stock just sounds dead to me, and i think its time to replace it.

ive tried dimarzios/emgs(active&passives), gibsons, andd none of  them had that sweet tone i was looking for. and ive been hearing nothing but praises about these pickups. but i cant seem to figure out which one is right for me. so please help me out

heres an example of :
GWAR
between the buried and me
bring me the horizon
trivium
killswitch engage
the fall of troy
incubus
the devil wears prada

Welcome.

Most people will recommend a Nailbomb for your guitar. The simple answer is that it just works in basswood guitars.

So, who am I to argue with medical science? I say Nailbomb!

I have a Nailbomb in basswood and it does what you want, it can be sweet and it can grind. There are lots of Nailbomb clips in the Players area you can check out.

For the neck I reckon a calibrated Nailbomb or perhaps a cold sweat neck would work, and for the middle single coil I can recommend an Irish Tour.

thank you all for support, i think ill be going with nailbomb like you guys said.

how would a nailbomb compare to cold sweat in the neck?

PS: ive had my share with HIgh gain pickups, personally i dont think a pickup should be alone responsible for the gain your guitar produces. alot of it comes from the amp itself. *VHT ALL THE WAY BABY     *
