I recently bought myself a used Ampeg Superrocket SR21rt for 700 Euro's. Although, used.......it only had about 20 hrs playing time. New these things cost double of what I payed.
It's a 100W 2X12 Celestion G12H two channel combo with reverb and tremolo. Weighs more than a 2X12 bassman or Hot Rod Deville. Thank gawd it has wheels.
When I first tried it at proper volume levels it sounded flat and thin. The EQ knobs did very little. The chassis was running hot too. I almost thought I had bought a lemon but all this amp needed was a bias tune up and some other pre-amp tubes.
I'm still toying around with the EQ to find 'my sound'. For now I have settled for: bass and treble on 6 and mids at 4.
The clean channel is very bright and articulate. It could make even the darkest sounding guitar twang. One could say it's a bit like a Fender Blackface.
The dirty channel is a lot darker, more bluesy almost Marshally sound. There's still plenty of treble and presence in it though. Plenty of gain but not a metal sound but great for blues, rock n' roll and hard rock.
Although I did use terms like Blackface and Marshall, this amp has a sound of it's own. Did I mention this thing is loud?
I'm gonna road test it next friday.
Very cool, unique amp.
