Effects pedals...

I've been looking at these on t'internet in moments of boredom, and have kind of come to the conclusion that there aren't actually that many different sorts out there. And often, the most interesting aren't in production any more. The only one that has made me lean towards the screen squinting was a thing called the "Third Hand"  (no smut, please).

I've got a EH Tube Zipper which seems pretty unique, but the rest of them are just the usual fare.

So...

1: are the majority of effects just the same gubbins in different boxes?

2: what unusual effects have you come across, if any?

EH made a box like that back in the day - I believe Neil Young uses something based on the same technology for changing the sounds on his trusty old Tweed Deluxe.

That "third hand" looks really useful. But not £95-useful. I bet you can biuld something using some gears and a dummy pedal that will do the same. Or replace the knob on your pedal with a rubber wheel (think Lego ;) ) and turn it with the side of your foot.
