laney TT - Anybody have any first-hand experience?
« on: October 13, 2007, 06:26:26 PM »
It's one of the amps on my (very short) list of possibles, but living in the gear backwater that is South Wales, nowhere within about 120 miles has one I can try.

I'd be grateful for any info anyone can give me - what sort of tones can it produce, how much gain is on tap, whether the overall sound is is balanced or trebley/midrangey/bassy etc.

I need to know if I'm on the right track with the idea, or if I should have a bit of a rethink. For reference, I'm after something versatile, as I play a pretty wide range of stuff, and I'm not mad about very mid-heavy tones.

Cheers,
Si
Warpigs.

I tried one out when I was looking into buying a Laney head over a year back. I chose the VH100R over it because it sounded more 'raw' and had something the TT lacked. Didn't really like the TT that much, sounded a bit tame in comparison to the VH.

i liked the tt more than the vh100r, but it might be a bit mid-heavy for you... ages since i tried one, though.

Cheers Dave. I think the only thing to do is to put a bit of hard research in, track one down and go try it out.

Although, if I don't like it, I might have to go straight back to the drawing board  :?

I like my TT50. Would like just a tiny bit more bottom end, but I'm used to my old AOR which had loads of it. There's a live clip of it wi'me 7 string (mit Warpig)

I like my GH50L, they go for pretty cheap 2nd hand as well. Dunno if this is too middy for you, but its probably the heaviest sound I've recorded with my GH - http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=493678&songID=4951909

As always it sounds much better in the room, but its fairly accurate.
