New guy, need advice...
« on: October 28, 2007, 07:43:13 PM »
Thanks in advance for the help first of all. I have a spanking new 7-string on the way and the first thing I want to do when it gets here is try some BK pickups in it but I need some advice before I decide. I play metal almost exclusively and usually use EMG's in my 6-strings but I dont really care for the EMG 707 so I need a set of godly metal PUP's. I play lots of Nevermore, Between the Buried and Me. Lamb of God stuff like that.

From reading some stuff on the site here, I'm kinda looking at Warpigs vs. Nailbombs? I'll need a neck and bridge pickup so hit me with your expert opinions!

I have a Miracle Man set they are great very tight bass and with scooped mids. Godly pinched harmonics.

If you like mids go Painkiller

If you like a really saturated tone go Warpig I have one of these to and its a fooking beast...

If you like a really saturated and even tighter response go ceramic Warpig.

If you want versatility go Nailbomb...

Have I missed any?!  :P

i'd like to add that, as far as i know, the Miracle man isn't scooped, it just has less mids compared to most of the other BK's.

I have a set of MM's, and they just seem to encourage meaty riffs. The bass response it amazingly tight, and they are just great pups. Also, string seperation is phenominal, so you can play chords with masses of OD and they actually sound good! :D

alnico warpig for nevermore

miracle man is great for lamb of god, but doesn't sound like the band

could you be more specific about what do you like in a pickup?

a friend of mine said he wanted jeff loomis tone, bought a warpig and then he regret cause it doesn't have the tight edge he loves in ceramic pickups, specially his gibson 500t
the same problems he had with the mesa triaxis he always dreamed to have
then after playing it for a few hours, he realized that he loves his rocktron piranha a lot better
so he didn't want jeff loomis tone, he wanted the tone he already had!

so he asked me and e-mailed Tim about te closest pickup to his gibson 500t...
so he replaced the warpig with a painkiller and now he's completely satisfied

so think exactly what do you want in a pickup before ordering it, and keep in mind that a pickup will always respond different in different guitars AND different amps
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

I definitly want tight bass response and easy, high gain harmonics. And since its a 7-string I also need to be able to dial in lots of gain without muddying up the signal from the low B.

So far I'm thinking War Pig in the bridge and Nailbomb in the neck? Thanks again for the advice, you guys are a big help.

Ceramic Warpig.

You'll find the PK too middy, except for LoG, which it does very well.

The NB isnt tight enough for that stuff

Warpigs would do a good nevermore through a tight amp: loomis uses 707s which are A5, but active, so its tighter (among other things) through a krankenstien, which for all its faults can make a pretty tight sound.

The C-pig is sharper and tighter. Has a greater tendancy toward screamiing leads that you'll like for nevermore, and does a great LoG.

Miracle man would do well for you, if you want to go for a smoother mid (as in some nevermore) and more high end. A loomis solo would sound great on one! Not so hot for LoG, since its a smoother sound, where LoG always have a grittier mid crunch.

I have no idea what between the buried and me sound like. Sounds like a 'scene' name  :P

So you think a C-Pig in the bridge and  Miracle Man in the neck?

p.s. Between the Buried and Me could definitly be classified as a scene band but check out this vid of their lead guitarist soloing. I love the tone he gets on the sweep picking at the end.

This is probably a really stupid question but when I go to the online store here, how do I differentiate between the Warpig and the C-pig on my order?
