which BKP for my LesPaul Artisan 3 PU ?
« on: September 13, 2007, 04:27:45 PM »
I bought a Gibson LesPaul Artisan 3 PU (1978) one month ago.
I would like to change all PU with BK.
I still have a LesPaul Gibson Standard with a set of Mule and I'm very very very satisfied (they are great PU !!)

I'm a blues, rock and funk player and I want my Artisan sound sweet funky on clean channel (need attack not to boomy...).

Which PU do I need ?

thanks

charles

ps: LEsPaul Artisan have the same wiring as a Custom.

If you play a lot of clean tones, then I would go for the Stormy Mondays  :D

Another vote for the Stormy Mondays  :D

The flatter E.Q response ( compared to Mules ) and sweet high end / subtle bass will suit your described uses I.M.H.O.

And what about this combinaison:
neck: Stormy Monday or Mule
middle: Mississipi Queen
bridge: Mule

Does the MQ loud enough to be combined with a set of mule or stormy monday ?

it might look a bit odd I'd go with a set of stormy mondays and a mule for the bridge

I think the MQ would be hot enough to work with the Mule or SM, but I don't know what sort of tone you'd get combining them.  Is the guitar wired so you get middle+bridge in the middle switch position?  You'd never get the MQ on its own.

I think it would be cool to have MQs in middle and neck positions, with a humbucker in the bridge.  You could rewire the switch to give you neck, neck+middle, bridge.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

My wife has an MQ neck with a Nailbomb bridge and they balance very well, if anything the MQ will be hotter then the SM / Mules.
