still thinkin about replacing my bridge Mule in my LP

I still love the tone of my bridge Mule, but sometimes I wish my bridge pickup had a bit more of a "rawness" or edge to it and maybe more midrange? Think the intro guitar tone on Dirty Little Thing by VR. Also, sometimes it seems a bit underpowered compared to the neck mule. I was thinkin about getting a Crawler or a Black Dog..will I still have the same "vintageness" and in the tone just a bit hotter? Will I still be able to do Led Zep and ACDC style stuff on either? Oh and another question for Tim or someone at Bareknuckle, is it ok to put BKPs for sale in Seconds Out?

Hi.Personally i would say your tone with the mule is excellent.
I have just installed a Mule into my strat and i must say its the best tone
ive ever had,it really does everything.For warm Paf tones i dont think it can be beaten.I would also recommend if you do change pickups hold on to the Mule,better the devil you know....
The crawler has more prominant mids to my ears.

Yeah it sounds amazing through the V-Amp 2 but I dont get quite the same edge through my proper amp, its probably the amps fault but I cant really replace that. If I do decide on the pickup change I would have to (reluctantly) sell the Mule to pay for the new one  :?

What amp are you playing through?
In the short time i have had my Mule i know it likes to been driven hard and when you dig in it comes alive.
Do you use any kind of booster pedal?

Its a Fender Hot Rod Dx. My signal chain or whatever is LP-TS7-Aria valve overdrive-amp. The Aria pedal is my main low gain Led Zepp style overdrive which I boost with the TS7 for GnR style overdrive. Maybe an EQ is all I need? I heard parametric are good for this kinda thing but there dont seem to be many around...

Just check pickup heights, I'm guessing the neck is too high in relation to the bridge - there's some info somewhere.....

Great amp,but needs to be driven hard to get a thick overdrive.
Which is not always possible when you want to play at home.
I dont think changing to a crawler in this instance would help the gain situation,my Mule has as much drive as my old Crawler had.
It would just be a different tone.

hahahah wow I totally forgot about that! I bet the neck ones right up high! I'll check when I get home later. And thanks for all the help Steve, I dont think I'll bother with a Crawler then. Suppose a Hotplate/attentuator will be a better investment? Thats for another thread though :roll:

Ditto on the hotplate. I was amazed by that Apache clip as well. Raving reviews on HC when it comes to hooking it up to a HRDLX. It's number one on my priority list. (Sorry Tim)

yeah I might try and sell that Aria valve pedal on ebay to fund one  :lol: The Apache clip sounded amazing haha. Theres also the Weber MiniMass for cheaper but apparently at high attentuation it cuts highs or something.

I just messed around with the pickup heights, I've got a good balance between them now, I lowered them quite a lot aswell so I have a more "natural" sound I guess.. I wont be changing them out anytime soon I decided  :lol:
