Amp Switching - 2 heads one cab ? need a second amp
« on: November 12, 2007, 11:13:04 AM »
Thinking about getting a tonebone headbone which lets me change between two heads attached to the same cab.  Effectively I need an extra channel cause much though i love my 5150 it does not do clean!

I do have another amp I could use with a good clean sound; but was wondering what the alternatives would be?

i.e. could I use an amp modeller/rack?  and are any of these foot switchable?

I'm not interested in any distortion; just the cleans (any decent effects which are switchable would be a bonus) anyone got any recommendations?

PS - it needs to be in Santa's budget

Could you pick yourself up a cheap combo or something? A wee Fender or a Roland Jazz Chorus?

I do have another amp; just thinking of car space, back pain and versatility!

I could sell you my headbone, it's mint.

I am not using it because the limitation not to be able to use delays or reverbs in the loops of my amps makes it useless for me.

If you do all FX in front of the amp or don't use any "spaces" in the loop, it could be perfect for you...

You could buy a preamp and use the poweramp in your 5150.

A/B1 > 5150 > Send > A/B2 > Return.

First A/B switch would be your output (preamp) selector, then the 2nd A/B switch would be your input (preamp) selector.

Basically you would need to press 2 footswitches to align the input with the output - Or I presume you can get a splitter between send and return that could use both of the preamps as an input at the same time, while only 1 will ever actually be active at any one time - In which case you could use only 1 A/B switch to choose between preamps.
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.
