K-100 speakes?
« on: December 06, 2007, 08:20:16 PM »
At current I have goldbacks in my JCM800 100w 2x12 combo. Do you guys think I should change them to G12K-100's or Hot-100's? (Are they the same speaker?). I mainly play heavy blues (Badlands) or the Jake era of Ozzy (BATM and TUS). Aswell as these I play Free, Sabbath, Zep etc

Any help would be appreciated!!

Different speakers altogether - the G12K100 is a high powered development of the G12H - very deep in the bass and thick - Great mixed with speakers like a V30 or CL80 as they give great bottom end.  It has the heaviest magnet of all Celestions (I think!) so needs to be played brutally.

The G12T100 - 'Hot 100' is a development of the G12T75 - and is an all rounder like the G12T75 - a bit of everything but without the heavy chunck of the G12K100.
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

G12K-100 is a fantastic speaker - especially fr heavy music, because it handles the bottom end really, really well, and has a brutal grunt and grit to it. Might not be ideal for blues, but with the high power handling, if you're after bluesy breakup you might struggle with any high powered speaker.

Speaking from a heavy, dark, hardcore style of metal, the G12K-100 is a BRILLIANT speaker. I honestly can't say about other styles, though.

Would love a pair but cannot afford. Ideally I`d have a 2203 original head and a 2x12 loaded with EVM12L's....

and the EVM 12Ls match very well with the K100s in a 4 x 12, by the way :) Especially now they're beginning to break in!

Can't afford a 4x12. Do you reckon a 2x12 with one EVM12L Classic (I hate Zakk Wylde) and a K-100 would sound good?

An EVM12L and K-100 is going to cost you around £200.  Why not get a 2x12 with some G12H-30s and run it with your combo.

I'd have the G12H-30s in the combo and the existing speakers in the 2x12.  When you've got more cash you could put some K-100s in the 2x12 under your combo.

I used to run a similar setup for a while with a Marshall Bluesbreaker and an old chequerboard 2x12.

I won't always be using the combo with the cab so I wouldn't put 60w worth of speakers in my 100w combo. I guess I should save really and get what I want first time round..

Yeah, one EVM12L and one K100 would probably be pretty kick-arse too. The EVM speakers are very expensive, though. I'm not sure if I could give them full marks due to the cost of them. An alternative might be one of the Neo speakers (one of the more neutral ones, like the Jensen Neo, possibly). Trouble is, until you get a speaker and test it in your cab, you really don't know how it'll sound! Naturally, that can get pretty expensive.

Personally, I reckon 2 G12K-100s would be absolutely superb. As would 1 evm and one g12k. The bonus of that is that the speakers actually complement each other pretty well, so you end up with a pretty wide and full-sounding cab.

Good luck in your decision-making!
