Non-standard size strat pickguards?
« on: December 06, 2007, 05:39:50 PM »
I have a bit of a problem getting pickguards for my strat to fit properly. I always have to sand down the area around the bottom of the neck and the area around the bridge, otherwise it wont fit in properly. Has anyone else had this problem and is it just a case of getting a different sized one? The screwholes all line up fine, its just the area around the bridge and neck that wont fit! I want to make my strat HSS soon and would rather get one that fits properly straight away instead of sanding a normal one down to fit properly.

Cheers

Your best best might be to get a custom one made. Make a tracing of exactly what you need onto a piece of cardboard and have one custom cut. WD Music do them - it's where I got the pickguard for my Tele from.

It's a very common problem
Fender have not entirely stuck to the same blueprint for all their strats, and especially once you throw in production from different countries too.
Custom made may be the way to go, or put up with slight modifications

I see, good to hear I'm not the only one with an odd shaped guitar. I think I'm just gonna get a wd pickguard then sand it but try and make it look neater than my sss pickguard :)
