The best middle 8 ever written ?

What do you think ?

I've just listened to "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce S on the TV (one of my top 10 songs of all time). It has the most amazing, emotional middle 8, that fits the song so perfectly. It get's my vote !   Strangely, not a note on the guitar in the whole song.

Remember we're talking about middle 8, or bridge, sections ONLY !!

+1 from me on that. I do love this song. I was out last night and it came on the jukbox. I'm man enough to admit that when he sings "ain't no angel gonna greet me......" I get a bit of goose bump action on my arm and neck! Why does music do this to us? Actually I'm gonna start a new thread on that so I don't steal this one.
I think I hate being indecisive.

the middle 8/bridge is typically (in most rock music), the change before the solo.  think of the section before the first solo in November Rain, that's a classic middle 8 moment.

The middle section of 'No More Tears' with all those strings, whale sounds and gentle ringing guitar and then going in to the wild solo.

Magnificant! Goosebump moment! Oh wait that's another topic.

I am biased but I always marvel at The Beatles "We Can Work It Out" with John's great "middle 8".

Technically not a middle 8 (being far longer than 8 bars) whole lotta love has got to be up there.  When page's guitar kicks back in at the end of the instrumental section it sounds HUGE!!

No seriously, whats a "middle 8"?

From what I can remember of my Music GCSE, a middle 8 is traditionally an 8-bar section in the middle of a song, that differs from the other sections.

Typically:

Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Middle 8, Chorus, Coda.

Or something on those lines anyways.

Couldn't agree more about the Whole Lotta Love example!!!

That is one of the great moments in rock history!  :)

Indeed.

But I have to say - Sunshine the Werewolf - Dillinger Escape Plan, the epic bit near the end is amazing.
