Jackson RR1 and BKP's!
« on: December 22, 2007, 02:57:24 AM »
Hey guys, finally decided to upgrade my Jackson RR-1 with BKP's! I've narrowed my selection down to the Cold Sweat neck, and either the Nailbomb or Painkiller in the bridge.

I play a mix of Thrash/Death with progressive/melodic elements, similar to late period Death, Kreator, Nevermore, Iron Maiden.

I tune to D standard, and am running through a Peavey 5150 II head with a mesa boogie 4x12 cab, with an MXR 10 band eq and BBE sonic maximizer pedal.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two pickups, but feel free to give any suggestions!!

I'm a fan of painkillers myself, very very very tight stuff cool mid range chug stuff....me like   , its in the same vain as that old Testament stuff eq-wise, you could get that sound very easily with the Painkillers in my opinnion.

Of those two I'd go with Painkiller bridge, although I have a Holy Diver set in my RR1T & it sounds fantastic.
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

From what I've heard, it sounds like a Painkiller would suit you very well.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've also decided to put BKP in my schecter c-1 classic, so i think im going to go with the Painkiller Bridge, Cold Sweat neck in the RR1 and a nailbomb bridge, cold sweat neck in the schecter. I use the schecter neck pickup for clean tones on recording, and for harmonic solos. Any suggestions besides the cold sweat?

MQ neck is great for that P90 bite and single-coil bell sound...   8)
BKP guitars:
Epiphone Dot Studio (NB bridge, MQ neck)
Gibson LP Studio (MM bridge, CS neck)

The Nailbomb neck is actually an incredible sounding pickup too. Very nice juicy tone that sounds amazing clean and stays really clear under gain. Highly recommended if you want cleans as well as liquidy solos. Would make a nice pair with the CS in the other guitar too.
