Pickups for Jackson SL2H
« on: December 21, 2007, 08:08:57 PM »
Hey guys,
This is my first post here on the forums; I’ve been reading and gassing for a few months though.  With Christmas around the corner I think I’m ready to take the plunge on some new BKP’s.  My guitar is a Jackson SL2H; neckthrough maple neck and core, alder wings, ebony fretboard, floyd rose trem.  This is the only guitar I am going to have for a few years so I am really trying to make it as well-rounded as possible.  I play heavy metal, reggae, jazz, and like to mess around with the blues every once in a while.  My amplifier is a Mesa/Boogie Rect-o-verb combo.

I’ve done some research on this site and can get the general idea of what pickups I want.  But as usual it seems difficult to narrow down to just one.  People on this site are really great salesmen and make convincing arguments for all pickups.  For my bridge I’m looking at the Warpig, Nailbomb, and Miracle Man.  I enjoy all types of metal, anything from Ozzy to Meshuggah and Tool.  The stock JB doesn’t have that oomph that I want, it comes of as thin.  I tune to standard by the way so a pickup that can handle low tunings isn’t really necessary.  I’m leaning towards a warpig because everyone says its surprisingly versatile and seems to be a jack of all trades.  As for the neck position, most people seem to agree on the Cold Sweat for smooth neck leads and arpeggios shreds.  My only question for the CS is can it do Jazz well?

I really appreciate any help on the matter since this is my first time changing pickups.  Thanks in advance.

P.S.  How important is an F-spaced bridge pickup if it’s a high gain monster like the WP, NB, MM?

i think alder guitars sound too bright and "80ish" with ceramic pickups
i'd put a holy diver or alnico warpig
maybe alnico miracle man
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

These are great suggestions guys, keep them coming.

I'm leaning towards Alnico magnets for the bridge, I fear ceramic may be too bright for the type of guitar I have.

Also, I want to run this question by the guys at the BKP shop, what is the appropriate e-mail to send this question to?  What is Tim's email?

Thanks a lot.

Ceramic WP or MM in that guitar will not be to bright at all it will tighten up that guitar since its a neckthru.
