i couldnt think of anything to suggest to him so i got him to write this for me to post on here.

"ok, well for the neck i want smooth leads... just like slash's solo in sweet child o mine..

and the bridge i just want something similar but more aggressive.. more edge.. so it can do cleans with a different edge but also have a nice cutting rythmn to it aswell.  but not a metal pickup.. more mid gain rocky.. foo fighters like the intro to hey johnny park."

3 hums btw for the pictured guitar

If it were me, I imagine I'd be thinking:
-Mules
-Rebel Yell/Abraxas
-Nailbombs (bridge may be a tad hot, but neck is quite PAF-y)

I'm sure someone else with more knowledge/experience than me will have a clearer answer.

From the clips I've heard and from what I have, I'd go for Mule neck, Rebel yell middle and Emerald bridge.

I wanted exactly that. Getting a Mule neck and Blackdog in the bridge fitted as we speak. The Mule is just class and the Blackdog is similar but hotter like your describing. Will post a pic when I pick it up sometime next week.

Unfortunately I have to wait slightly longer as im having to get it fixed. The fret buzz isnt caused by the frets its Gibson wonderfull craftmanship which means the neck is not straight and is lumpy and Im having to get it all straightened.

It depends on the tone your after but the shop recomended replacing some of the electronics. Getting "bumblebee" capacitors and electronics which are 1959 Gibson LP replica's to get that authentic sound. Im replacing it at the same time. It will just help complement the pickups!

You didn't change the middle pup? It's funny, Mule and 'Dog were the first that came to mind when I read the first post.

I've not got any BKPs (am hoping to acquire some for my Sheraton II but nobody's responded to my question thread in this forum) but I think if you were looking for a different sound option to have in the middle position a Mississippi Queen could be neat (it'd also look cool).

Hey! That's a fine idea!
BKP guitars:
Epiphone Dot Studio (NB bridge, MQ neck)
Gibson LP Studio (MM bridge, CS neck)

I would say that with Mules, you get a really good balanced core guitar sound that isnt too hot or too quiet, which then relies on whatever comes after the guitar to produce the tone you want. I think with the right amp you could easily get foo fighters tones with a Mule set. In the cover band I used to be in I played clean stuff such as Chili Peppers up to rock like Sweet Child O Mine with the LP and it always sounded right to me, and I occasionally play metal at home no problems, just needs a booster to enhance the harmonics, tighten things up and make the input to the amp a bit hotter.
