more responsiveness and touch sensitivity, slightly more output, more volume, more treble, less mud (helps in mahogany guitar w/mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. MUD CITY)
my maxon OD 808 really DOES make poop sound good

I still need to do this on my SG, but my ceramic warpig sounds so nice, but i guess if i don't like the sound with the 500k volume pot, i can just change it back

Mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard ... sounds good ... but Mud City?

If the guitar has a maple cap does that change your thoughts on Mud City?

300k pots sound muffled, compressed and constricted to me and never cut through in a band context.

500k allow the full voice of the pickup to shine through, imo.

mahogany body, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard - that's an SG and the last thing I'd call them is muddy.

That's what I was thinking as well.

I'm a little confused with equating a mahogany body/neck, rosewood fingerboard guitar with a muddy tone.

Dark toned perhaps (which is good in it's own right) but ... mud?

I can't see it ... sorry.

Actually i like both, some guitars/pickups just sound better with 500k pots though and i have the impression BKP's are voiced for use with 500k pots.

The old guitars i have with 300k pots do sound more vintage, and those are certainly not too muddy, allthough i prefer 300k pots vintage wired.

Just changed my 300k pot to a 500k pot, it was well worth it. Think it's pretty essential for a pickup like the warpig

sg's i've found to be very lightweight and open sounding, they're using the right mahogany -- lightweight quality stuff, and also, the pickups work well with them

however, if you're using mahogany and rosewood (both very warm and somewhat dark woods), and have dark pickups (like a SD invader) and like to use lots of gain, an all mahogany guitar is a mud factory. Just gotta watch your electronics and pickups with your woods, because some woods are easier to muddy up than others. This is why i like maple caps and ebony fretboards to brighten the tones up :)

anyways, 500k's cut way better than 300's. Definately a great pair with a mahogany and rosewood guitar.
