Jazzy neck HB for a Strat
« on: January 16, 2008, 11:18:36 PM »
Hello, I need recommendations for my Strat. It has a hard ash body, rosewood board, huge frets, heavy tuners and trem block. Its sound is deep and rather hollow compared to alder/rosewood Strats but lacks the punch of an alder/maple Strat.

I'd like something warmer than a Mule neck. I also like the sweet Alnico III vibe of Apaches. Would an Alnico III mag make a Mule neck sound sweeter and jazzier? I remember Tim recommended Alnico III PAF's for a sweet, clear and jazzy sound.

Well you have the IV Mules and the Apaches so i THINK you should have a rough idea about how they would sound like, and yes if you ask me they would sound basically like in between alnico II and IV pickups with somewhat less punch i think.

Im actually considering something in that direction for a neck pickup but with a AIV medium DC pickup for my next set of BKP's. Maybe something along the lines of an AIV Emerald.

Still Pondering though......

Thanks! I have several choices then - AIII Mule or Stormy Monday, AIII MQ or Manhattan... seems like the best thing to do now is wait and keep listening. I also wonder if mixing magnets in a MQ or Manhattan would offer further possibilities.
