Pre-amp tubes help !
« on: January 18, 2008, 11:04:37 PM »
I found out that my M&B Nomad 55 combo has,at least, one "dead "pre-amp tube  (V1).They are( five) GT12AX7M's.I tried a MB 12AX7 chinese in V1 and it was bad, noisy and harsh. Now,i must replace the GTM's but i don't find any or the price is too high.I'm thinking about the Tungsol 12AX7 which seems to be the best. The Mullard re-issue (Russian) would fit but it's not the same as the GT and not as good?Right now,i have put the MB12AX7 in V5 and the ex-V5 GT12AX7M in V1;that way,it's ok,just a bit noisier but ok.Should i buy the 5 Tungsol (or another brand),even if i've never tried them ,or buy some different kind to try them out 1 by 1?Any advice?Does anybody knows about the Tungsol 12AX7's (and for Boogies)? Let me know.... :? .... 8)

buy another set-then you will have backups :) tung sol re-issue 12ax7's are well liked by most boogie players...the noisiest preamp position is v1,so you could take the noisiest culprit and move it back-i dig the gt12ax7 A's in my boogies..been dependable-if you want the gain, boogie preamp tubes have it
"...major scales...what's that??"- Doug Aldrich
-Rebels,VHII, Mules,Milks,Bombs,and Boogie C+'s!!

Thanks,Shaman 8) .I will try the Tungsol set and take a look at the GT12AX7A.The Boogie (chinese) in V1 was not very good ,i'm afraid..
