1 x 12" quest
« on: January 31, 2008, 09:10:21 PM »
Hello,

I was looking at 1 x 12" extension boxes and I narrowed my search to two models:

Orange PPC112 and Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 112 tweed

Neither Fender nor Orange mention the type of wood they use. Is it ply wood, solid, chipboard?? is it wood at all?

Any info that you might have will be greatly appreciated. thanks

No idea but I would hunt down a Bogner :)
BEST workmanship have seen in a cab!

But isn't the chance of finding a Bogner 1x12 the same as finding Hens teeth?

Must be a nice Cabinet. 8)

You want a 1980s Dumble - anything is going to suck and the gear aristocracy on these boards will laugh at you.

You could get a Matamp cab instead?  Proper 15mm 18 ply marine birch.  :)

I have a Tube-Town british 2x12, and love it. Before this I had a huge oversized 2x12 with 20mm thick plywood and a bass port, and it sounded thin and weak compared to my TT british with G12H speakers in it :D

The studio series look good as well and come in 1x12 http://www.tt-cabs.com/tt_produkte/index.html

edit - they're fully customisable as well :) Mine was £140 including shipping from Germany, so they're priced well. Nice pic of mine with my amp and guitar, just because I can post it really

I agree with Twinfan. My Matamp cab is really well made. You can get it in whatever colour and cloth mesh you like, plus the speaker type of your choice. most manufacturers all come as standard spec.

I'd go for the new Fender Hotrod Deluxe extension cabs in tweed - they look great.

I'd also agree with Tom - the Tube Town cabs are great.  If Tweed is your thing TT do em as do Tube Amp doctor.

The Award Session black tolex cabs are also very good value.

The GAK website claims the Orange 1x12 is ply - http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/ppc112-1x12/67504 .

The Bogner is a great cab, but really is very pricey.

I would second speaking to Matamp. Their cabs are very good. My "Martamp-branded" Matamp cab is built utterly superbly. They don't cost the earth either. I guess that you would just have to be prepared to wait a few weeks, as I suspect most stuff at Matamp is on back order.

Cabinets are quicker than amps, say about 2 weeks.
