Has anyone ever bought one of these?  They look interesting, and pretty cheap...

I plan on getting one of the basskits in the near future. So yeah, definitely worth it.

Yeah, that's true.  You can bump the cost up with a swamp ash body and nicer tuning pegs etc.  And I think that a pre-wired BKP pickguard full of Irish Tours would be pretty special...

Not sure how they handle international orders, but I have a brother-in-law in the US military, so I think that his international PO box might come in handy...

The kits are very good. Carvin necks are very comfortable to play, also.

Don't forget that the body needs to be sanded/finished, which saves a lot of $$ if you do it yourself.

Well, I'm convinced!

What do we all think - a nice set of Irish Tours with the Swamp Ash body, Maple neck and Ebony fretboard?

Should be kick ass. Are you going to finish it yourself?

I only ask as swamp ash is meant to be a bit of a mission to finish.

hmmm...  will be in negotiation with the wife for several months regarding the purchase of said gear...

downloaded the .pdf of the manual, they just recommend using Tung oil.  Had a look on projectguitar.com and there's bits and bobs about finshing a guitar like that...  Sanding heavily between coats seems to be the key.  I think that watering down the oil with turps then building up the viscocity (not sure if that's a word, but it's Friday night and I'm pissed) would do the trick...

How hard can it be?  I'd be really tempted to call them up and negotioate on leaving off the pickguard and electronics and geting one of Tims (we are not worthy) prebuild pickguards...  Hmmm... Irish Tours.  Just bought Rory Gallaghers TATTOO - sweet album!!!

Mark.

the issue with swamp ash finishing is the very deep grain.  Absolutely fine if you want  to do an oiled finish and leave the grain as it is - but any shiny  lacquered finish will need the grain filling to look good... many ways to do it  and still perfectly possible on swamp ash, but read up about it first

decide on the finish you want first then ask over at PG about the best way to do it

Wow, looks like great value!

Whats the verdict on that Wilkinson Tremolo? is it the same one thats used on the Andy Timmons AT300? it looks like it...

I was looking to get a Pacifica 412 but this kit seems like more my thing, i've always wanted an ebony fretboard...

So, Alder or Swamp Ash? two woods i've never touched... i have tried tulipwood mind! i'll either be putting in a H/H or H/S with mules or some other vintage-paf type pup, heck maybe even VHII...
