Not a problem Mr B.

I'm not knocking Epiphone either. I've had several Epi's and they do the job reasonably well (except for a terrible Epi SG ...   ). The one that I have left (Epi LP) is pretty good but doesn't come close to my Gibson LP, in terms of build or tone.

Obviously Gibson own Epiphone, so to be fair the 2 brands aren't in competition with each other. The company (Gibson) is just trying to cover the market sector.

If you want a decent guitar that looks like a Gibson you can pick one up for a reasonable amount. Epiphones are a good prospect in this respect.

If you're wanting a Gibson ... buy a Gibson. Not an Epiphone.

Pretty simple.

That's a generalisation Mr B and not aimed at you or anyone in particular.

From my experience with modern gibbos and epis..

the epis are normally better

and not chambered.

What's so bad about chambered?

it affects the tone.

SO you dont get the full thick les paul tone that your after if your getting  les paul.

I thought the chambers gave more sustain...

I think he means, when you get a Les Paul, you'd think a thick tone. With a chambered, it's just thinner. Which isn't Les Paul style at all.

Coming back to these new Epis, I think they've messed up on the 24-fret LPs - they've extended the fretboards but haven't redesigned the body at all, so top fret access is even worse than usual.

And the neck pickup's almost down in the middle of the body, instead of nicely surrounded by the upper bout.  Looks all wrong.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I see what you mean Philly, looks like a bridge and a middle humbucker now than a bridge and neck.

Why have they put the knobs in such strange odd places? why why why!

I really want that black, active SG... but the knob placement is really putting me off it.
