Hi all,
I really hope you can help me out here!
I am a very 'a bit of this, a bit of that' guitarist, so I play lots of different styles and have left playing covers take precedence over defining my own tone.
I am looking at getting some bare knuckles for my Ibanez, but don't really know what will work with my range of sounds. It is probably worth noting that I have a Tokai Les Paul I use for my softer, slower stuff normally, but I am still not quite swallowing that I won't be able to get pickups which do EVERYTHING.
I am probably going to wire the pickups like this on a 5 way switch:
Neck coil tapped
Neck humbucker
Neck + bridge inside coils, series
Neck + bridge inside coils, parallel (strat like according to Dimarzio)
Bridge humbucker
Anyway, this is what I am after:
Guitar:
Mahogany but a little thin (Ibanez S320), Rosewood fingerboard, 22 Jumbo Frets, H-H configuration
What I want out of the new pickups:
Very articulate cleans, especially on the neck (more so when coil tapped)
A neck that when I crank up the distortion will really be shredder heaven for fast riffs
(If possible) Nice blues and jazz sounds off the neck
A bridge that will produce screaming pinch harmonics (even when I miss a little)
Bridge that works nicely when palm-muted
Bags of sustain
Two pickups that will mix well (But if they don’t I guess I can always wire out the 3rd and 4th positions)
(If possible) A nice strat sound in the 4th position
Sounds I am after:
Necessities:
Satriani sound
Metal (Pantera)
Hard Rock (Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Dragonforce)
Classic Rock (Led Zeppelin, Guns n Roses, Van Halen)
Good to have as well:
Muse type sound
Softer Rock (The Eagles, Eric Clapton)
Blues sounds (e.g. BB King)
Santana type sound
I hope this is enough information for you to give me some suggestions,
Thanks a lot!
Rob
