what is the difference between staggard and flat pole pieces
« on: April 27, 2005, 11:09:26 AM »
..... is there any change in tone?

My Irish Tours are flat - sound lush 0- but was interested in knowing if staggard sound better?

Thanks

A little -  but not with pickups like the Tours, more of a difference with lower output pickups, I actually like flat mags, I find that with modern strings vintage stagger mags create an uneven volume response (although I don't have any strats with a vintage fingerboard radius - mine are quite flat!)

Flat profile are great for 9.5" radius or larger as they balance volumwise better. Vintage radius  boards can handle a stagger, which is based on the way Leo Fender heard string balance.
I play a compound radius board on a Relic which goes to 16" at the dusty end and I use Apaches with a '56 stagger with no problems at all. :band5:
