Mississippi Queens for Thinline tele?
« on: February 22, 2008, 04:37:33 PM »
So I've been wanting a thinline tele for a while now, and I think I loves the MQ pickup set, humbuckers don't float my boat much, but I'm wanting a beefier single coil tone.

Any predictions on how this will sound? The thinline tele is semi hollow, maple necked and alder bodied (I think). A custom scratchplate will be needed but I can live with that expense.

Can't comment on what the MQs will sound like, but is it the MIM '72 Thinline with a pair of Fender Wide Range humbuckers?  That's an ash body.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Ah cool, thats the one I'm after then. What difference does ash make on the body wood then?

I think it's hard ash (as opposed to swamp ash) which is brighter and snappier than alder.  But of course the semi-hollow body has a big effect on the tone.

I have a US '90s Thinline which is also ash - the hollow body seems to bring out the highs and lows more.  It's really twangy if you dig in, but mellow if you pick softly.  That's the acoustic tone - plugged in, it still sounds very Tele-ish!
