does anyone find BKs.....awkward?
« on: February 16, 2008, 03:14:47 PM »
hey I was just wondering...
I'm not talking about the "tone" of the pickups
but the "looks" I have gold cover set of mules...and I just noticed today
that the covers seem to be more....squarish ...? I don't know they just seem a bit awkward to me. does anyone agree with me ?

I think they're "vintage correct"  ;)

I know what you mean about them being squarish but i prefer it they look cleaner and higher quality than conventional rounded pickup covers

Squarer corners on the covers are vintage correct - there are people who pay stupid amounts of money to buy aftermarket pickup covers to that kind of spec.  BKP offer them as standard.

oh, I was just curious, but was wondering why they were different from other pickup covers. Since I'm used to the "other" pickup covers. I did not know BKs offer vintage-correct covers. I guess I'm get used to it. Anyway. Mules are the best sounding pickups I have ever heard, love it.

The covers we make are exact repros of the original cover first offered by Gibson on the PAF pickup. The original tool that Gibson used was eventually polished out in @ '60 I believe and covers got more rounded in the corners(it's also alot easier to make that way too)which is the way most of the far eastern manufacturers make them these days. As HTH rightly pointed out you can pay almost the same price for a set of repro vintage correct covers on the net as you can for a complete covered set of BKPs and even then they won't be as exact as ours.

I did not know about the vintage correct thing but I noticed the different and somehow I found they were looking neater.

Good little thread.  I noticed this when I first got mine and was curious about this.  Just assumed it was Tims' choice of cover.  I had no idea that they were vintage correct and that they are sought after.
