Any Bass heads here?

What do you think of this guy?

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/msg/585714833.html

My #1 need right now is a decent bass... I've been looking at an Ibanez Soundgear (I almost bought it this last weekend here, but held out for some reason...)  The guy claims it retails at $1800, that may be MSRP, but Musiciansfriend has them at around $1500.    Is a Stingray-5 a Stingray-5?  Are there any sort of "Sub-models?"  At $750 with hardshell case, it looks to be a pretty good deal.  Any thoughts?

That's the damned bass that i've been after...

Go for it, you wont regret it.

I'd say that 1800 is about right but a shop never sells it at that. you're getting a damned great bargin, stop messing around and buy the damned thing!

There are, or were sub models, literally called SUB. discontinued now. Get it man, it's a real damned bass!

I could bloody use one of these... oh well.

P.S i wouldn't touch a soundgear, don't think they're good enough to be honest.

AFAIK: The SUB's came in 4 & 5 string flavours, but with no case. That StingRay 5 looks more like a Sterling from those small pictures. I've had a couple of StingRay's in the past, the necks are real hunks of (usually birds-eye maple) timber, great if you like P-bass style chunky necks, not everyone likes/gets on with them though.

The 3 EQ models do give you better flexibility, but the active circuit does tend to kill any individual tone you or your setup may have. They sound like StingRay's...

Ibanez Soundgear's are good, well built basses, but they're another active "one sound fits all" type bass.

After many, many years of owning & using actives, I went back to using passives. Much better tone IMO.
