Newbie Questions, Mississippi Queens?
« on: February 29, 2008, 12:56:37 PM »
Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and new to Bareknuckle pickups in general.
I'm considering putting a pair of Mississippi Queens into my SG Standard.

I have 3 guitars with Humbuckers and one of them is a Les Paul, which is similar if not identical to the SG. So I want a different sound.

My other guitar is a White Falcon with Filtertrons which does not sound like a Gibson, so I have a bit of variety.
However, I always like P90's when I hear them as they have the single coil clarity but with much more balls then a Fender.

I suppose I'm kinda looking for a Johnny Thunders/Mick Jones punky kinda sound which is pretty much an LP Junior.
I'm thinking with the thin mahogony body of the SG and that, I should be able to get something close with P90's.
The MQ's seem to be the most authentic humbucker sized P90's out there from what I can see.

Wondering if anyone has any opinions?

I think they'd sound great.  The MQ I had was quite biting and full sounding in my SG, so if that's the tone you want then go for it  :)

Cool, thanks for the replies guys.
That's what I was thinking alright.
I am looking for power with clarity and some bite.
I think the MQ's might fit the bill.

Another question I have which maybe I should start another post for is if anyone has any pics of the the black MQ's?
I'm pretty sure the SG's hardware is chrome so I was thinking of going for the chrome cover.

The guitar is that kinda brown burst with a black stratch plate so black pickups could look kinda cool.
Would love to see them first though.
Was wondering if anyone could help me.

Yep, either that or Riff Raff humbuckers  :)

I don't know of any black covered MQs on the forum....

Nice one Twinfan.
I'll have a look at those Riff Raff's, though I think I want single coils.
It is listed on the site that the MQ's come in black.
Maybe I'll put up a seperate post to see if anyone has any.
Has anyone noticed any difference in sound between different pickup covers, nickel, chrome etc.?

Cheers

I'm not to good with all that picture upload thing to be honest.
But I shall see what I can do Ratrod, the Falcon is a very cool looking guitar alright. I don't think I deserve it anyway.
I'll need to get my hands on a digital camera though.
