Yet more speaker / ohm questions
« on: March 05, 2008, 02:42:43 PM »
Tut-tut but I fear I have committed the cardinal sin of not doing my homework properly (and being a bit of a dumb ass to boot)

I have just ordered an Orange 2x12 to run with my Mesa 1x12 combo. The Mesa has an 8ohm Vintage 30 but I have noticed the Orange cab, which has 2 Vintage 30’s, is 16ohm. Does this mean the V30’s in the Orange are the 16ohm version ?

The Mesa has 2 x 8ohm and 2 x 4ohm outputs on the back.

I know nothing about ohm’s and impedance, have I dropped a huge tezzer or can I get everything working together ?

Cheers

Ratrod

2 X 8 ohms in serial = 16 ohms.

2 X 8 ohms in paralel = 4 ohms.

If you wire the 2X10 in paralel, you can hook that up to the 4 ohm output of the amp and the 1X12 in the 8 ohm output.

Hope this helps.

Yeah - if they are two 8ohm V30s in series making 16ohm rewire them so they are in parallel so they are 4 ohm and use 1 of the 4 ohm outputs on the mesa.  Here is a wiring diagram:
