Pickups for an ESP M-II
« on: March 07, 2008, 10:47:04 AM »
Hi there!
Yet another I can't decide question for you guys!
It's a lefty ESP M-II on it's way and I want to change both the jb and the '59 in it straight away! The jb is too skinny for the stuff I intend to play and I want to try something else for the neck position as well. For a reason,I like the rhythm sound in bridge position, heavy tight bottom, etc, you know the drill, and play solos in the neck position, little more vintage, yet modern (black dahlia murder type)! I'm quite sure that I throw a Nailbomb  in the bridge, so I'm asking you guys to help me with the neck pup!
Thanks very much!

I have an ESP mirage Deluxe; which i think is a much earlier model of what you have.  I have a nailbomb in the bridge and an irish tour in the neck.

Thats sounds great.

My other mirage has a slow hand in the neck which is a little fuller than the tour and not quite as agreesive.

Thanks for the answer!
But yeah, it's a new model with twin 'buckers! I was thinking maybe an emerald, or maybe an alnico cold sweat, or...it's just so hard to decide!

Hmmm...
The warpig is too hot for me,especially the ceramic one!I choose the nailbomb, cos it's hot,but not overly hot.And for the alder body,I need a bit darker sounding stuff.I might consider the MM,but the Nailbomb seems to be a good choice

The NB is very comparable in power to a JB. It may not be enough.

And its not dark. Its not bright, but its not dark.

If you want dark, then the closest will be holy diver.

Nope,I guess the Nailbomb stays as the primary chioce for the bridge, since I'm looking for an SD Custom sounding pickup, not too hot,but stays very tight and clear under huge amounts of gain! And I've got a 5150,and it gives me more than enough power and gain,so I don't really need a very hot pickup.Any good ideas for the neck pickup?

The matching Nailbomb neck would be a great choice. It's extremely clear and clean, and has a lovely fluid lead tone.

If you're looking for clarity at the bridge, the Nailbomb is awesome, as is the Painkiller. If you don't want something mid-heavy, the Miracle Man is probably going to be your best bet.

Before you order anything though, make sure you run it past Tim - he knows his pickups better than anyone else, and always gives a great recommendation.
