Anyone ever tried one?
http://www.flaxwood.com/home/Flaxwood is a Finnish guitar maker that uses a proprietary solution for crafting guitars out of some sort of a wood-based composite material, that's then molded to create the guitar bodies and necks (my terminology may be way off base here, read the site for details ;) They claim to offer great tonality, and a environmentally friendly product, since they use some ordinary woods (and even recycled wood, I guess) instead of the more exotic ones.
I recently ran across one of their guitars in a local guitar store. It caught my attention since the grain of the "wood" looked different, and I hadn't heard of these guitars before. Didn't know the story behind them either at that point. It felt a bit different than your ordinary guitar, somewhat more "plasticky" perhaps (mind you, I tried it real quickly and this was months ago.) The construction was semi-hollow, the guitars (I guess all models) have a resonator plate on the backside. It played nicely acoustically.
Didn't try it through an amp, but now that I've read up on them, I want to go back and put one through its paces!
I'm personally on the lookout for a new metal axe, don't know if the Flaxwoods are a good match for that. They have models with EMGs in them that are geared towards hi-gain stuff, but I just read on their forums that they're giving up on using EMGs and going for Duncans due to "feedback problems". I guess the semi-hollow construction plays a part in that...
Anyways, I'm somewhat GASing for one at the moment. They look cool in my opinion, too! (And no, I've no affiliation with them although I'm from Finland myself ;)
