And is in the LC15R... Which has been a bit of a pain. But it has to be said my toolbox might not be the most furnished north of the Water of Leith.
Anyway it is in and that is what mater! :)
First I tried the amp on its own with the Gibson in clean sound. Really nice sound but then I hadn't much to complain with the previous speaker in this territory.
Then I started increasing the gain. Still very nice with flat EQ on the amp but I can't say I noticed a huge difference.
Full on with the gain, and it seems to be tighter and punchier but I wouldn't have swear. I know that sometime live impression can be deceptive.
So I decided to add the FOD to the equation. Selected the neck MQ with tone pots rolled back all the way with the kind of usual settings, which mean a fair amount of gain but nothing over the top. I do remember that with the neck pup, no matter what with the settings with the tube 10, it was plain mush all the way on the low E string.
Well, things have changed big time. It was fairly defined. Try with the bridge Mule and it was quite punchy. That was the revelation!
Very good start so I didn't push further and moved on to the Epi tuned in C. Bliss my friends. I was starting to think I won't even need the A8 mags I got from Tim to try to get the bass tighter in my set of SD '59, which where getting, at least in the neck, quite undefined with this tuning. But I'll use the mags for experiment sake :) So I tried different pup settings with split and everything... Ah! I forgot about the middle out of phase position. Ah well, tomorrow.
Finally, plugged the Tele. While the flat EQ worked just brilliantly with the LPs, I will have to do some tweaking to find back a good sound with the tele. It seems the Vintage 10 is brighter than the Tube 10, but not in a harsh way. So with the Tele it makes a lot of brightness. I am not worried, I'll work out something.
Now the next step is to do some recording this week end and enjoy my new sound.
Thanks a lot for the advice Fourth Feline.
I can't believe how my sound and musical horizons have evolved in the past months, between the Bare Knuckles for the Gibby, the new Tele, the tuning of the Epi to C and now the new G10 Vintage. Playing is getting so inspiring these days!
