MQs in a epi dot?
« on: May 02, 2008, 05:32:09 PM »
So again I'm contemplating a change of scene. My plan was to put some Mississippi Queens into my epi les paul, BUT! i kinda hate the finish of the guitar, a nasty cherry sunburst. Considered the idea of a refinish, but that is a lot of effort and might go tits up.

So been browsing around and came across the Epi Dot Studio, maple top, back and sides with rosewood neck. This looks sexy. But how would the MQs fit into this guitar? The MQs are renowned for being fat, how would this sound in a maple semi?

Just curious of options before going to try some out, also saw a les paul shaped Ibanez semi, again looking to house some MQs... How would they be in a hollow body?

I think the MQs would be OK in a hollowbody, it's not too different from an Epiphone Casino with P-90s.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I have an MQ in the neck of an Epi Dot Studio, and it sounds great  ;)

Not so sure it sounds like a Casino with P90's though, but it sounds pretty smooth without losing its bite, and lets the semi-hollow factor come through in the sound.

I have a Nailbomb in the bridge, so I can't tell you anything more there  :P
BKP guitars:
Epiphone Dot Studio (NB bridge, MQ neck)
Gibson LP Studio (MM bridge, CS neck)

Sounds amazing m_o_g, my plans have changed now, gonna be putting a MQ set into my epi les paul now. Love the guitar just needs a great tone to go with the feel.

I have fallen in love with the epi dot studios- so basic and would give a different tone than what i'm used to. one day...
