Go with the Bodenhamer Maxon OD808. Joe designs his mods specifically with the metal guitarist in mind, and that is his personal favourite of the modded tubescreamers he does. Should be just the job.

I would endorse JT's comments regarding the DHA Purist. I have one too and it is a great pedal (if a little bulky). Not high in gain but is great for cranking things up.

Hmmm i think i'm going with Nolly's suggestion - because Joe is a metal guitar player so i guess his pedals are suited for the genre.

Nolly have you ever played of of Joe's pedals and if so, how was it?

No, I can't say I have I'm afraid. All reports I've heard have been excellent, and Stevepage's clips sounded very good, especially considering he was boosting his POD.
I'm definitely going to be putting in orders for one of two of his pedals in the near future.

While a lot of people answering this thread are suggesting great pedals, I'm not sure that they are quite grasping the way you will be using your OD. You are looking to use the OD simply as a tone-shaping tool - setting the drive to 0 or just above, and letting the inherent bass-cut built into the pedal tighten the low end, while using the tubescreamer's midrange to thicken the sound, add focus and punch.

This is exactly the usage that Joe has designed his pedals for, and that is the reason I'd recommend his stuff.

You're right Nolly that's what i want the pedal to do and quite a few people are making suggestions under the assumption that i want to use it only as an overdrive/distortion pedal.

What do you reckon you'll buy? I think for me it's really between the TS9 or OD808 - what do you think?

I must say, his Maxon 808 with Chaos Mod sounds mighty tasty. He mentions downtuning and seven strings, I presume that means it'd be suitable for going down to A-E-A tuning...

Personally, I'll probably be going with a bloody murder and DS1 in one rackmounted unit. Should be pretty sweet.

Of the TS9 and OD808, I'd probably go with the OD808, they're renowned for being great sounding, and I prefer the more compact design. If Joe says they're the best sounding out of the box, I'd take his word on it.

I think the Marshall JH1 is a really good allrounder, both Overdive and Distortion in one pedal, true bypass, 3 band EQ (sweepable mids). I now massivley regret selling my old Jackhammer, I think I paid £45 for a new one.

the divided by 13 range master clone is pretty amazing.. you can some very dark and thick boost tones while keeping it very transparent

Nolly i'm guessing you'll be using the DS-1 in the same way i plan to use my OD pedal? Or would it be as an extra gain boost? Or a new distortion in itself? (probably not the last because i know you have a Diesel VH4/Herbert!)

Yeah, I think it'd be pretty cool to have different boosts for different flavours.. Probably end up using one for rhythm and one for solos or something. Oh, and I only have one Diezel, the VH4, not both!

Yeah it's a shame the wait time is long on the Bloody Murders. Still I guess it's good news for Joe! He's doing pretty well at the mo, modding pedals was just a hobby of his until a few months ago, seems word is spreading around.

The Bloody Murder graphics aren't really my thing either, but Joe can do them in any colour, and you could have whatever you want written on them. He even said he'd happily supply them unpainted.

Congrats on the 808, I think you've made a great choice there. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.
