I play an Epiphone Les Paul, and I need to replace the pickups. What would be good for a nice warm jazzy tone? The style I play ranges from Les Paul (the man) to John Abercrombie to John McLaughlin (circa Mahavishnu Orchestra).

This might sound strange but the Warpig is a very popular jazz pickup in France.

Welcome to the forum :D
For jazz I always refer to Alnico III for the tone as it's quite low output but full and reasonably transparent.I'd suggest an ALnico III powered Mule......I've done this for the 12 string neck of my 6/12 and the tone is superb!

An Alnico IV Mississippi Queen (humbucker sized P90) is delightful for Jazz - I know Tim can do a Alnico III one and that might be heaven!

The alnico III mules sound gorgeous, really clear and bright. The Mississippi queen would be a good choice too.
