"Custom" wiring
« on: June 10, 2008, 01:41:47 AM »
Hello!
It was some time ago that I installed a Nailbomb bridge pickup in my Ibanez S1220, with 4 conductor cables to a 5-way-switch. It works and sounds GREAT. But now, I'm planning on selling the guitar, but want to use the pickup in my Cort M200, with a standard 3-way-switch. I remember reading this could be done with 4 conductor no problem.

But then I started thinking... I don't use the "inbetween"-mode at all, and on the other hand I really like the coil split option.

So, would it be possible at all to wind my pickup/switch to the following config

1. Bridge
2. Bridge coil split/parallell
3. Neck

with just my regular 3-way-switch?

Cheers

Not sure what switch it has, is it the fender, gibson or rotary style. You might have to put in a push pull pot.

It's a Gibson style switch. I thought as much, just took a chance and asked if there was any way to do it with just the switch, since I don't need the middle mode anyways. But I figured it might be hard/impossible to do.  :P

'Fraid there's no way of doing that with a normal Gibson-style toggle.  You'd need a push-pull pot, as splawnster suggested.

However, there is a 4-pole, 3-way toggle switch available which can be used to split a pair of humbuckers in the middle position (I know John Petrucci has this on his guitars).  There might be some way of getting the wiring you want with that switch, but I have no idea how!  :?

Oh, splitting both hambuckers in the middle would do just fine too actually. But, if it's not possible with my current switch I'll just skip that part I think. It was just a thought. :) Thanks for the help.
