Just Finished Stripping/Refinishing a Strat...
« on: June 06, 2008, 12:56:16 AM »
If you look at my avatar (which I really must update, it's ridiculously old now) you see a MIM Strat I've had for about 3-4 years now, i just had it as a second for a while, then I had it as my drop tuned (to A# F A# F A# F) which was awesome, but I stopped using the tuning and wanted to use it. So in January I bought me some loverly new "Mother's Milk" , and one of the first ever bare knuckle strat trem bridges :-) :-) :-)

Originally the body was a pretty terrible 3-Tone Sunburst that was so bleeding yellow it was WRONG! Anyway, I stripped off the finish and then oiled the body. Unfortunately, the body itself isn't that good looking, being that its a 6-piece ash body with maple top and back veneers. The backs in pretty bad condition, the wood is very stained and yellowed but the sides have come up lovely, nice deep ash colour. The top's better than the back though, although it still has some staining. Anyway, here it is, hope ya'll like it...

Sounds bloody brilliant with the old Mother's Milk in it too, very pure, clear strat tone with loads of variation between the 3 pickups...

Cheers

Joe

Looks good to me! and yes, I'd agree that sunburst isn't the most appealing! :)

Indeed, it was officially horrible. Looks better now, and it's gonna get really messed up too :-) The BKP bridge is awesome as well. Lots more sustain and clarity. allllll goood.....

No trickery, just bllody brillinatly made bridge. I posted about it a while ago when it arrived, obviously most members have overlooked/missed that fact cos its a pretty big step from pickups :-) Has anyone else got one of these bridges? I haven't posted for ages so I'm out of date...

The bridge itself is solid cold rolled steel, exactly to 50's spec with THE EXACT tremolo arm angle that everyone wants, its beautiful. So solid, heavy, adds a great chunk of sustain and tone too [Nudges Tim to get him to say more about his loverly bridges]  :D

I have one, though it is currently with John at Bravewood going onto a 57 Strat.  They are built like the originals, and look great.  You can get them with plain saddles or with 'BKP' embossed into them.  If you contact BK directly, they can let you know the pricing.
So many pickups, so little time

Looks like Joe Holme's strat!! Obviously it doesn't have the floyd, maple fretboard, large headstock or black humbucker but it's close enough  :P

Haha, I wouldn't go that far, (i think it's pretty half arsed really) but i'm happy. Sounds really good too, those Mother's Milks are gorgeous, seems underrated on this forum where Apaches and Irish Tours seem to dominate a lil (especially in the sounds clips) although, I have owned all three sets :-)

I only just realised its got no volumes or tones :P Whats with that, surely the bridge pickups a bit harsh without a tone?

Looks great anyway, I love the look with the sides a bit darker. Reminds me of Brows strat. I'd prefer a black pg/covers tho, I always think that suits natural wood better. Or, maybe a wooden pg the same colour as the outside wood colour? Would look unique and very cool I think :)
