How do you check the output of your pickups?

I've got digital voltmeter...

Black of multimeter to earth bare wire of the pickup, and red of multimeter to red pickup wire (if BKP) or the hot output.

GO!

Thats not output though. Thats just DC resistance.

You check the output by playing though them.

On what setting?  Something between 0 and 20 DC resistance.

If you set to 20K you will be able to read off most pickups, however you will need to disconnect the pickup to test it, as you will get an incorrect reading with the grounds all connected.
So many pickups, so little time

Will they sound great in a chambered (light weight) Les Paul??

I have them in my 53 conversion, which is the lightest Les Paul I own (even lighter than my chambered one!).  I think they will sound fine in there.

I think I am retarded.  This isn't working for me.

DC, set to 20V on the meter...touch cables to wires....nothing.

I believe on 4 conductor wiring you check red to green and black to white. Neither those nor any other combination of wires work.

Edit:
I set the meter to OHM instead of DCV and it works fine.
.
Just straight line it !
