what do people think of these necks? floyd conversion nuts?

anyway, what do people think of these necks? decent quality? up to squier/epiphone/fender mexico levels?

furthermore, they seem to be routed for a floyd nut... is there some way to fit a normal nut in there?

Beware of trying to go non floyd as the strings don't go in a straight line.
You may be ok as long as you put a pull down bar behind the nut.

You could just put a floyd nut in there anyway. How much do you care what it looks like? I find that after a floyd nut is locked down it enhaces the resonance of the guitar a bit anyway, and of course they are very stable so it makes good sense. Its just whether you think it'll look odd, I suppose.

Could be a major pain in the arse if you go out of tune though!  :lol:  Unless you have a fine-tuning tailpiece like your Schaller unit.

I suppose it was a bit much to expect detailed replies based on those images, I thought maybe some people had tried them before though.

Nevertheless, those were all really helpful tips, especially about the nut and string angle

Just for the record I'm thinking of fitting one to a Squier strat. I think Squier necks are ok (I've played worse low-end Jacksons), but a bit agricultural, Epi standard would be ok... Don't really want anything worse than Squier standard ;) A bit nicer would be appriciated.

Well I suppose at the price it's almost worth getting just to see what it's like - if it's really horrible you can sell it on unused and only lose a few quid.

I suppose it depends how low-friction the nut is (and, I suppose, how aggressive you are with the trem).  With locking tuners you've eliminated nearly all the slack in the strings by not having extra winds round the posts, so they should come back into tune pretty accurately so long as they don't stick in the nut.

If I ever get my old Hamer back in working order I'm going to use the Kahler trem and locking Schallers.  I never liked the string clamp.
