Audacity or Reaper?

What software are you guys using to record? I currently use Audacity, but it seems laced with glitches and bugs. It has worked up to this point, but is getting rather annoying. I guess I can't complain too much seeing as how it is free.  :lol:
I have read here that some are using Reaper. Is it better? Any other good programs out there? (assuming that I don't want to spend any money of course! :D)

Cubase but have used reaper and audacity..reaper is better, updated regular..and bugs quickly iron out as remember can use vst plug ins and others and has quite nice free plugins as well (is the guy who coded winamp)

Thanks man. I downloaded Reaper and dumped Audacity. Already seems to be a much better program.  :D

+1 reaper is really good and easy to use. I use the kjaerhus classic compressor and it's great. I dont really know how to use it but it  has a load of presets which seem to make things they're made for sound better so its all good :)

I agree - the Kjaerhus Master Limiter on the 'Master to CD' preset is great for that final mix down.  I always also use the EQ 'more air' setting.  The Kjaerhus presets are, unlike most presets, actually well thought out, useful and, better still, free.

Thanks a lot guys! I am still trying to figuring the whole thing out. It seems rather difficult starting out, much different than the Audacity program that I have been using for the last year. But, it is a marked improvement over Audacity.  :D

If you need any help PM me, I can do basic things in it but if you need to do anything more advanced than recording, adding fx, vst instruments etc then I'm clueless :lol:

Sorry for the newbish question, but I'm very much a stranger to computer recording... what is VST?

I dont know what the initials stand for but I think they're just the effects plugins you use in DAWs such as Reaper, Cubase etc. VST instruments are synths which make the midi you program in actually make a sound, if that makes sense.

Virtual Standard Audio....they are anything from compressors, reverbs, instruments...it is a Steinberg thing....but reaper can use them, one of the reasons it's a good prog...because there are so many free ones for reaper itself..and then you can use the thousands that were designed for cubase
