I really like the Maxon AD-999, my old Boss DD-5 is good for Tap -Tempo moments. A friend of mine has the T-Rex Replica which does a very good job at sounding analog, and has tap tempo

I'd recommend against a TC Nova, had one for all of a week before I let it go. Nice sounds, but never got as spacey as I wanted, and the way it stored presets was ridiculous and it would be nigh impossible to change sounds mid-song, and still difficult to change them in between songs. Very, very limited piece.

If I were you I'd stick to the Mad Proffesor Blue delay, I'm actually gonna get my Boss DD3 replaced with one when I some more money, it's the lushest boutique delay I've heard, as it's proper analog too! It would be well worth the extra money.

The Boss DD3 and Boss DD2 are the best and warmest of the digital one's I've heard, but only Made In Japan one's! look for the blue or green label on the back, they sound much warmer than the Korean one's, and the MIJ models darken on the repeats, whereas the Korean ones do not, can't believe no one else has mentioned them too! lol

The DD2s are excellent :D DD7s are very nice as well, if you would consider going digital. For $160ish they have a LOT of features: 6400ms of delay, expression pedal input, lots of delay modes, and 40 seconds of loop time O_O

I was strongly considering one before my friend bought me a Timefactor  :D

The Mad Professor Blue delay is digital, not analog.  It's similar to the Carl Martin Delayla XL that I have, in that it uses analog circuitry but with a digital chip rather than bucket brigade (as seen in the true analog delays). http://www.musictoyz.com/guitar/pedals/bjf3.php

I've had a TRex Replica and various TC Electronics delays and have to say that the Timefactor is a fantastic pedal. Initially quite complex as there are a lot of options, but tonally it does not interfere with your amp and has options galore.

I am thinking of getting a Deep Blue for a smaller board I am building.

I meant it sounds analog, how does the mad prof compare to your carl martin?

Also line 6 echo park is really nice too for an analog simulation, yet another one.

I've not been lucky enough to try the Mad Prof.  The Carl Martin is pretty good though.  I imagine they're probably quite similar really.

i have tried both the Carl Martin Delayla Xl and the TC Electronic vintage delay.

the carl martin was a bit of a let down, it really colors your sound, it makes it sound dull and sucks the top end not only from the repeats but from the original signal.

the TC was alot better but sounded too clinical not much life in it at all, but it didnt color the tone.

i am still looking for that perfect delay pedal, i want to try the fulltone tape delay, that mad professor one that has popped up in this thread alot and the bog standard Boss DD3.

I don't notice any loss of tone with the Carl Martin.  I'm still disapointed with it though.  I think that making it solely tap tempo and not including a knob for delay time is a major design flaw.  The second delay head is great and can cause some really good sounds, IMO similar to a tape delay.  However, it's no better than the much cheaper Boss Space Echo pedal.  While the delay sound of the CM is good, to my ears it doesn't sound as good as the MXR Carbon Copy.  It's difficult to describe why, but the MXR just sounds richer and more natural.  Maybe there's truth to the theory that analog is more organic sounding than digital?  If you're in the market for a delay then it's worth trying out an MXR as a lot of guitar shops will be stocking them.

Yeah bt thats TC for ya...Gilmour gilmour gilmour gilmour!

actually, what amuses me is that people view the Trex Replica and The TC vintage differently based on the manufacturer etc. I really like my TC, does exactly what I need. The eventide is cool and sounds good but confuses me and the loop function is not exactly intuitive (but the ability to start on the footswitch and reset then start again is good!).

I really am interested in the Carbon Copy but its not true bypass and I never liked the MXR bypass. Other than that the Malekko 3/600's look amazing.

First post and all that so 'hi!' to everyone. I've got the Malekko E600 (the bright version) and I like it a lot - its not terribly versatile compared to similarly priced digital models in that there is no tap tempo or saved presets but it has fantastic vintage tone - rich repeats with minimal distortion and very little noise. Handles overdrive/distortion pedals very well. Clean with a touch of chorus is fantastic - very big and ambient.

I did have a calibration problem with mine out of the box - there was some really high frequency noise leaking through on the repeats. I emailed the owner via the malekko site and he got back to me with the simple fix very quickly - I've had no problems since.

So if its more of a Pink Floyd/U2 thing you are looking for then I'd heartily recommend it.
