Possibly the fact that both Pete and I find the same thing might be evidence of something? In my case I have measured the gain of various valves, sourced from different places, as well as testing them on a valve tester.

i still used that Mullard though, it's gone in V1 of a Fender Blues Deluxe reissue, it's helped tame it and reduce some of the brittle top end.
