Ceramic Warpig vs. Painkiller in Basswood?
« on: August 27, 2008, 02:29:35 PM »
Hey guys, i have an EBMM Petrucci 6 string which i want to put a bkp into.  I have had amazing results from putting the Cpig into my Ibanez rga 121, but thats a mahogany/maple topped guitar, and its generally more low middy than the Jp6 is (since basswood tends to be more of a flat eq sound, and is really sensitive to what pickup you put in there)
I have heard that painkillers sounds great in basswood, but i was wondering if anyone had a chance to try or compare the cpig vs the painkiller in a basswood guitar?
if you did, what were the tonal differences?  which pickup was tighter?  which was your personal preference?

thanks guys!

I havent had them both in BW, but have in swamp ash with oh $%&# it heres a link http://www.legraguitars.co.uk/mdv602.htm

Differences:
The painkiller is:

Tighter
Brighter
Middier
More forward and defined.

The Cpig is
Heeavier, more lows (my PK is double screw as well, and the C-pig was still heavier).
More compressed (by quite a bit)
Hotter

Both are great, but I like the PK best. Its clearer, tighter and cleaner and I love its midrange (I'm not normal such a big fan of a lot of mids: I am of the PKs), they're amazing, they even make nintendo-y sweeping sound somehow big. Love it. Great.

From your style, I think you should get a PK without hesitation.

Your only problem will likely be the same as mine.......every now and then the thought will occur to you that all your guitars will sound better with painkillers in.....

I know we've back and forth-ed over this alot, but I'm fairly certain you should go with the Painkiller, even if just to try both. You can swap them around and see which you prefer in each guitar, and you'll probably even find someone to swap with should you want two of the same.
