Mules and Stormies in Alder?
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:52:48 PM »
Hey guys,

In my typical fashion, I've done a couple of guitar trades recently. I swapped my Viper with SMs for an M2, and my Eclipse with Mules for a Gus G custom shop signature model. I've been lucky enough to be able to keep my BKPs from both trades, but now I'm left without mahogany guitars to stick them in. I'm intending to put the Mules in the Gus G, and the SMs in the M2, but I have a couple of questions.

Do you think the fact that the SMs are gibson-spaced will matter much on a floyd guitar? They have EMG style covers without polepieces protruding (but i'm not sure what's happening inside the pickup). There're no screws coming through the back of it.

More generally, how do you guys think Mules and SMs will go in alder guitars?

i cant really say about the woods as ive only ever owned one alder guitar and had duncans in it.

But about the whole spacing thing i used a standard spaced MM in my vintage with a floyd and noticed no difference whatsoever.

In the past ive also used numerous other pickups that are the wrong spacing in guitars and not noticed anything.

Hope this helps

i had an F spaced tone zone in a 50mm spaced before... and i didnt really notice any downsides.. its possible that it didnt pick up the same as a correctly spaced pickup would have... but it sounded good all the same.

Get rails!! they fit in anything! if only the BK range had some rails. possibly a PK or Pig rails option
